Ian Ross Thompson
28-3-1956 to 18-12-2020

A man who gave far more than he ever took, who loved paddling the oceans and rivers and being a mentor and coach to most of us is gone from life as we know it but will never be forgotten.

MOC members are deeply indebted to Ian for what he contributed and achieved in his capacity as an administrator. From past President to Committee member and Mandurah Duel organiser, he did it all with the club as a priority. As a student of the ocean and highly competent paddler, Ian was always teaching and coaching others. He loved to participate in races like the Doctor, the Avon Descent or his beloved “Duel” or just doing as many “Cut Runs” in a week as he could possibly do. He simply loved being on the water paddling.

His sense of humour was something else – he loved to have a yarn with his mates and was never short of a good story.
His pet dislike was seeing litter in and around the waterways and he never paddled or walked past something that needed to be binned – that was Ian – giving far more than he would ever take.

Ian, we will miss you more than words can say – you were a giant in the forest, the likes of which we will probably not see again.

RIP
